Auction house Sotheby’s is going to sell at auction the oldest in the history of the NFT-token “Quantum”, created by digital artist Kevin McCoy.
You can pay for the purchase with cryptocurrency
Sotheby’s auction house will hold an auction of digital art items in the form of NFT tokens for the first time. About 27 works by famous artists and designers will be put up for sale, and you can pay for the purchase using bitcoin or ETH tokens. Samsung became a partner of the exhibition.
“Natively Digital is a collection of wonderful, unique works of art created in collaboration with Robert Alice. We showcase some of the earliest raw NFTs built on pre-Ethereum blockchain, along with newer, sophisticated NFTs that showcase cutting-edge technical innovations. We attract both novice crypto artists and “old masters” from all four continents to exhibit their works, ” the auction house’s official website says.
The oldest-ever NFT token “Quantum”, created by digital artist Kevin McCoy in 2014 on the Namecoin blockchain, is also up for sale. The collection will feature tokens from the CryptoPunk collection, as well as artists such as Anna Ridler, Mario Klingemann, Simon Denny and others.

No longer a hype, but a new art form
Sotheby’s is not the first auction house that has decided to sell NFT tokens, positioning them as a completely new and promising art form. Earlier, the auction house Christie’s put up for auction nine non-interchangeable tokens (NFT) of the CryptoPunks project. Christie’s famously sold the NFT collage “Everydays — The First 5000 Days” for $69 million. Later, the author of the collage, Mike Winkelman, put up for sale another NFT project, which was already bought for $6 million. Winkelman promised to give the funds received from the last work to charity.

The NFT movement was also joined by the American entertainment magazine Playboy, which launched an online art gallery in the form of non-interchangeable tokens. The Nifty Gateway platform based on the Ethereum blockchain became a partner of the magazine. It will feature an extensive collection of art and photographs from over 70 years.
